I went to Alpine
this last week and it’s been a while. Last time I was through
there was on my way to Mexico to fish in 1975. The only thing I
forgot is how beautiful it is. I’ve taken a few pictures and
have them here for Cora, but will post the balance of them on
the boomers website.
It is truly the land
where the deer and antelope roam (see pics). Since I am on a
different time zone (and wasn’t playing football) I arose a
little earlier than the others. I took some stunning pictures of
the sun coming up while watching the deer graze across from me.
We went to take another look at Cathedral Mountain. I think it
looks meaner at 58 than it does at 21. Mike, Ronnie Bell and
Stan Williamson climbed UP THE FACE of Cathedral. I witnessed it
from a lawn chair and a case of beer from the base, so I can
attest to how they got up there. There were two near
emergencies: 1) They literally had to hang by their fingers
while scaling up one portion of the mountain and 2) they took so
long I almost ran out of beer.
We didn’t seem to
faze the antelope grazing there at Cathedral. The campus is
beautiful. They’ve built several new buildings and planted tons
of trees on the campus.
I’ve uncovered my
scrapbook from the 1970-1971 seasons and have some pictures and
articles I’ll scan and Toyah will get them on the website along
with the balance of my pics.
