Toyah, I know you knew Charlie well, but Randy and Cora I don't know if they did, however, I wanted to include them in this email, as well as other who may or may not have known Charlie.

This concerns a Scholarship fund in the name of Charlie Adams at Sul Ross.

There's two ways of doing this. Leo Dominguez handles this at Sul Ross and below is a copy of his email giving us two options:

1) Have folks donate to the newly created "Football Excellence Fund" in his memory. Send checks or credit card information to Leo Dominguez, SRSU Box C-114, Alpine, TX  79832. Folks can also donate to any other Fund or Department at SRSU in Charlie's memory. Make checks payable to SRSU,  on the memo line write the "fund" they want their donation to be placed in, or they can simply write me a note with their check. If  they want to process their donation with a credit Card they can send me an e-mail with all their information.  (I wouldn't email CC info. Fax that......rw)

2) If an endowment fund with Charlie's name is the desired intent, several things need to be developed for that to happen. I am attaching a "shell" endowment fund for your review, A name for the fund needs to be agreed upon, the other criteria such as GPA, Classification, Major (if any) preference, plus $10,000.00. The $10,000 needs to be in place within 60 months for the endowment to become a permanent NAMED fund.

The Scholarship feature is inviting however the fund needs to endowed over a 5 year period of time.  (Since we all graduated from Sul Ross I wanted to eliminate the math of trying to figure out how many years 60 months was.) I’ve attached the particulars so you’ll know how it works.

This fund can be used to direct scholarships from Charlie’s home town of Donna and specifically High School Athletes if so desired.

Now $100 x 1,000 people over 1 year = $10,000

$100 x 500 folks for 2 years = $10,000

$50 x 500 folks for 4 years = $10,000

I now have a headache.

Anyway, it seems, combined with Charlies’ H.S. classmates and teammates that a scholarship fund could EASILY be done.

I’ll wait to hear from you and speak with Mrs. Adams upon determining the route to take.

My emails to Sul Ross Athletes is sent out per Bcc as to not share the email addresses. If everyone would like everyone elses email address, let me know and I’ll use a CC instead.

Also, PLEASE respond to this if you have intention of donating no matter what the amount.

“The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered. ...He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf." (Proverbs 11:24,25,28)

Take care and may God Bless. Rw

I thought everybody might want to know that at the Donna vs. McAllen game this past weekend, an announcement was made that Charlie Adams had died Oct.4th.

That's too damn bad, too damn sad and too damn early. May God rest his soul and thanks Charlie for bringing a smile to our face when it was difficult to bring one about. rw

Charlie was a great friend and funny person. He loved to make people laugh. He lived next door to me at the Sul Ross Village. He was like Kramer on Seinfeld, always heading to the refrigerator. I've though of him many, many times.

Another" Great Lost" for us but a "Great Gain" for God. TT
